On May 5, 2025, at approximately 3:37 a.m., deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a male refusing to leave the Sheetz convenience store in Fishersville. Upon arrival, they identified the individual as 39-year-old Stefan R. Gerencser of Staunton. After speaking with deputies, Gerencser agreed to leave the premises without incident. Gerencser was intoxicated, declined medical treatment and refused transportation to the hospital by rescue personnel. He later agreed to be transported to Augusta Health by deputies; however, upon arrival, he refused to remain at the hospital for treatment. 5:18 a.m., Gerencser was arrested for public intoxication. During the arrest, he initially refused to enter the Sheriff's Office vehicle and assaulted a deputy. A brief struggle ensued before the deputy and Augusta Health Security were able to secure him in the vehicle. At 5:45 a.m., the deputy arrived at Middle River Regional Jail. When the deputy attempted to remove Gerencser from the vehicle, he discovered that Gerencser was unresponsive and not breathing. Jail staff immediately initiated life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, they were unsuccessful. The incident has been turned over to the Virginia State Police for investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.

At approximately 12:09 a.m. on April 27, 2025, a Virginia State Police trooper observed a motorcycle traveling over 100 mph on eastbound I-66 near Nutley Street in Fairfax County. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist drove away. Police escalated a chase to unknown speeds and stated that the trooper called off the chase “due to safety reasons,” not otherwise specified. Shortly thereafter, the fleeing motorcycle crashed into rear passenger side of an SUV, caught on fire which the trooper and then responding firefighters extinguished. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the crash site. The SUV driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The incident remains under investigation.

On April 25, 2025, at approximately 1:55 p.m., Norfolk Police officers responded to a report of a disorderly person in the 800 block of East Little Creek Road. The individual, identified as 37-year-old Charlene Carey-Chavez, had reportedly been involved in an assault the previous day and had returned to the area.
Officers located Carey-Chavez in the 7600 block of Sewells Point Road. Upon contact, she produced a weapon and failed to comply with officers' commands to drop it. Officers discharged their service weapons, striking Carey-Chavez and inflicting life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

On October 30, 2024, Andy Ernesto Espinoza Garay, 26, was fatally shot by Virginia State Police after a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 95. The chase followed an earlier carjacking incident, and officers began pursuing a vehicle that was believed to be involved in the carjacking. During the pursuit, Garay crashed into a Virginia State Police vehicle, causing it to flip. Despite the crash, Garay continued driving and was eventually stopped near the Joplin Road exit.
