Elyria police thought they saw a “hand-to-hand drug transaction” through a vehicle and took up chase. Police escalated to pursuit until the fleeing vehicle crashed into a bystander vehicle in an intersection. On August 23, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department SWAT officers executed a narcotics search warrant at the Park Terrace Motel, located at 9025 Pendleton Pike in Lawrence, Indiana.

Edmond police were called because a man was trespassing in a backyard. When police arrived, they saw him on a balcony with a gun. Police shot and killed him. It is unknown what his relationship to the residents of the home was but they were seen to be very upset about the shooting.

A man called Charlotte-Mecklenburg and reported a stolen vehicle on the shoulder of the I-485. When police arrived, the man who had reported the stolen vehicle and stood on the shoulder, was hit by a motorhome exiting the freeway while at least two police vehicles were also involved in the crash. The person who had been waiting for police was killed.

On August 21, 2024, U.S. Marshals and the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office SWAT team arrived at the Horizon Extended Stay Hotel in Conyers, Georgia, to serve a felony murder warrant on an unidentified man. Upon seeing police, the man locked himself inside a hotel room. Police escalated a standoff that lasted several hours. During the standoff, police fired shots.

The standoff ended when police forced entry into the room and found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The U.S. Marshals Service is leading the investigation into the shooting. Police did not publicly identify the man.

Rochester PD chased three teen boys after shots were fired. The three boys allegedly jumped in a car and stole it while running from police. Police chase them at high speed until they crashed at an intersection into another vehicle. An elderly man driving the bystander vehicle was killed in the intersection. The three boys, ages 13, 16 and 17 were injured.

On 08/23/2024, Alton Police responded to a call reporting shots fired near Liberty and Sixth Streets. Officers arrived and pursued Vernon Randle Jr. on foot. During the chase, Randle shot and killed a police K9. Officer Allen Averbeck then fired, killing Randle. Details regarding the circumstances leading to the encounter remain undisclosed.

On August 21, 2024, U.S. Marshals and the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve felony warrants on 52-year-old Timothy Lamar Crowe, who was wanted for the murder of 35-year-old Callie Brooke Goolsby in Crawford County, Georgia. Upon their arrival, Crow locked himself inside a residence. Police initiated a standoff that lasted several hours. During this time, law enforcement deployed standard SWAT tactics, including the use of flashbangs and tear gas, in an effort to compel Crowe to surrender. After several hours of SWAT pressure, Crowe was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when officers eventually entered the premises.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the appropriate judicial authorities for review.

The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a domestic violence. They arrived on Anders Road in Pittstown and found an injured woman. The man who had assaulted her had fled. New York State Police were called and the man was finally located 300 yards away from the home, having died from suicide under police duress.

Elyria police thought they saw a “hand-to-hand drug transaction” through a vehicle and took up chase. Police escalated to pursuit until the fleeing vehicle crashed into a bystander vehicle in an intersection. Two passengers of the car being chased were killed while the driver and another passenger were injured. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was also transported to the hospital in unknown condition.

On August 22, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) trooper observed Kevin James Kennedy operating a blue four-wheeler on State Road 33 near Lanier Road in Moultrie, Georgia. The trooper, aware of recent thefts and burglaries involving a similar vehicle, initiated a traffic stop. Kennedy failed to comply. The trooper chased him through fields, ditches and back onto the highway. During the chase, the patrol vehicle collided with Kennedy, causing his four-wheeler to overturn. He then tried to run on foot. The trooper deployed a K9 unit that mauled his neck severely. The trooper handcuffed Kennedy and immediately requested medical assistance upon noticing the severity of the K9 bite. Emergency Medical Services arrived, and Kennedy was transported to a hospital in Macon. He died from his injuries on August 27, 2024. His family attributes his death to only the blood loss and severe neck injury from the dog mauling. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an inquiry into the death.
