Rochester PD surrounded William L. Carter who was in a vehicle he locked himself in when police approached. Police did not state the reasons why but an unknown number of officers created a several-hour high stress standoff in a commercial mall parking lot until Carter shot and killed himself under unrelenting police duress.

Kennewick PD alleged that Adam Paul Klei killed his brother-in-law and was seen walking in the area of 44th and Gum Street in Kennewick. Police followed him with drones and K9s until they found him in a ravine in the woods. Police allege that they fired beanbags and Klei shot and killed himself under police duress. Police allege that Klei, a pharmacist, and the brother-in-law may have been involved in criminal activity.

Troup County Sheriff’s Office announced that they chased a vehicle, escalated the hunt to 100 mph and attacked the vehicle with a PIUT maneuver which is known to be almost certainly lethal at such speeds and as expected, the car was hit by police, knocked off the road, ejecting a man and 2 women. The man died. The women were confirmed to be injured and in unknown condition. Police did not accuse the vehicle of anything other than not stopping on command and it appears that was why they were targeted by high-speed PIT and killed and injured.

Lubbock PD allege that a man had fired a shot at an officer the day prior and engaged Texas DPS and SWAT into looking for the man the next day. They found him driving and chased him into a cotton field. At least 3 law enforcement officers chased him and allege he fired a shot. An unknown number of officers and SWAT fired an unknown number of shots and shot and killed him. The man’s name was not released. He is described as a short Latino male.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office saw a stolen car and called Tacoma PD to recover it. Police heard shots nearby. A man and woman had been shot. The man died from suicide under police duress after allegedly shooting and injuring the female.

A Riverside patrol officer allegedly pumped gas at a gas station when he saw a man holding a gun. It is unknown what the officer did as this part is explained only as “was giving commands” but the man was described as “continuing to manipulate a weapon” and was shot and killed. It is unclear what police mean by manipulating a weapon but they did not state that the man pointed or used a gun and it remains unclear why he was killed from the statement by police without video or other evidence.

Cleveland PD chased a stolen Amazon van into the path of another vehicle. The driver, Curtis Birchall, 70, was killed when the police chase crashed into his vehicle.

Canton PD investigated a “man with a gun” call, came upon Zach Fornash and shot and killed him. There was no 911 call. A patrol officer claimed that he was flagged down and sent to investigate Fornash. Zach Fornash was the father of two toddlers. Police have refused to give more detail so far.

On 12/04/2023, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on East Avenue J-8 in Lancaster, California. During the encounter, 27-year-old Niani Finlayson, the reported victim of domestic violence, was fatally shot by Deputy Ty Shelton. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, but LASD stated that Finlayson allegedly approached deputies with a knife. A 22-year-old man in a Lamborghini caught the attention of NYPD with a female passenger allegedly ran a red light in Inwood, NY. Police initiated a traffic stop. Apparently, the driver initially stopped but for unknown reasons drove away. Police escalated a chase and hunted the vehicle into another car, then crashing into the support pillar of the subway with 2 trains passing overhead during the crash. It is not clear whether police profiled the young man but the Lamborghini turned out to be legally rented. The only reason police mentioned as cause for the fatal chase was a traffic infraction. A 21-year-old female died inside of the flames.

An Idaho State Trooper made a traffic stop and alleged that a 34-year-old male passenger fired at them and they shot and killed him. Cortez had been arrested for drugs, then gun possession and had prior bad experience with police. No bodycam can be found and it is unknown how volatile this arrest attempt was and how things spiraled out of control.

An alarm went off at Tractor Supply and police arrived and chased 2 teenagers who had been on the roof of the building. Police arrived and two frightened teenagers ran. One was arrested and Joe Paduchowski fled while a K9 was released and somehow landed in a pond and drowned while fleeing from police and their dog. Paduchowski’s father commented on Channel 4 WDIV Detroit’s website that “Our son was a great kid. This was nothing more than a childish prank by two kids that should have never been out on the streets at this time. This is proof positive that you should never take anyone or anything for granted”.

On 12/03/2023, law enforcement located Frank Lackey driving the vehicle belonging to a Crossville homicide victim after a house fire investigation determined the victim had been shot before the fire. A Rutherford County deputy attempted a traffic stop on the interstate. Before deputies could make physical contact, Lackey shot himself inside the vehicle and died during the attempted stop. Investigators reported the gunshot was self-inflicted and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reviewed the incident as part of the broader homicide and arson case.

On 12/03/2023, Broken Arrow police responded to a call for service in a residential area and located a vehicle associated with the incident. Officers initiated a traffic stop around the 8000 block of South Willow Springs Court. Authorities reported the driver, later identified as 54 year old Troy Anspaw, did not comply with commands and exited the vehicle holding a gun. Officers opened fire and struck him. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Body camera footage later released by police captured the man stating he wanted to die when questioned about exiting the vehicle with a gun. The shooting was investigated with assistance from federal authorities due to jurisdictional factors.

On December 10, 2024, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a driver for speeding near Interstate 94 and Marion Street in St. Paul. The driver initially stopped but then drove away. Police escalated a "brief pursuit." The trooper allegedly discontinued the chase when the driver exited at Marion Street at high speed, crashing into a concrete wall. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Ahayna Elizabeth Sanders, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man killed 4 family members and injured 2 more when police were called and found him with a knife. Police shot and killed him. The man was known to have been mentally ill. His sister pointed out that she had tried her “very best” but that no mental health help was available for him. Lack of available mental health help is one of the leading causes of death leading to fatal police shootings.

Police allege that they were called to a home, did not elaborate on the reasons, did admit that they created a 3-hour standoff, apparently involving numerous LEOs and that at the end, they shot and killed Joseph Tyler Goodson. It is not known what prompted what sounds like a SWAT standoff, whether he was armed or what happened. Goodson was arrested once before for domestic violence and again for killing his brother’s dog. Byron Carrillo was believed to have killed 4 people in Dallas and was located on the I-35 in Austin by Texas DPS. Police chased him until he crashed into a concrete wall and shot and killed himself under police duress during the chase.

Fayetteville PD traffic-stopped Scotty Stacie and allege he backed up the vehicle during the traffic stop, causing the officer to shoot and kill him. Stacey was described by his friends as a “good guy”, a race car driver, someone who bothered nobody. Fayetteville PD claims Stacey landed in a field and reversed to try to get out when a deputy appeared behind him, claimed Stacey was “driving toward him” and shot and killed him in the moving vehicle. Police did not release their bodycam and dashcam videos and this is a still unproven police narrative. Stacey had been charged with personal drug possession and fleeing from police months before his death. He was well-known in the area and police may have targeted him because of old charges.

Lake St. Louis PD arrived at a Shots Fired situation at a park, saw a man with guns and tried to disarm him. Police allege they tried to take the guns from him and he refused, so they shot and killed him. It is unknown whether any deescalation was ever tried.

Douglas Alan Phipps allegedly fired shots at the town clock tower. Several O’Fallon officers drove up and eyewitnesses heard between 8 and 15 gunshots. Police allege that Phipps got out of the car with a shotgun. They shot and killed him. Tenderloin officers of SFPD chased a vehicle they felt was connected to a previous robbery and bipping auto parts. Police chased the car until it crashed against a wall, killing the driver and critically injuring the passenger. The survival of the passenger is unknown.

On 12/01/2023, Vienna police responded to a residence on Seventh Street after reports of two people found with gunshot wounds inside the home. Investigators determined that Stevie W. Roseberry shot and killed two individuals before officers arrived. When law enforcement secured the residence, Roseberry was also found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities confirmed his death was not caused by police gunfire and occurred as officers responded to the homicide investigation at the residence.

On 12/01/2023, Denver Police investigators executed a search warrant at an apartment on the 6800 block of East Iliff Avenue after receiving a tip that Ashworth had killed a woman in the city. When officers entered, they heard a gunshot coming from inside the unit. Officers located 26-year-old Keelynn Ashworth inside the apartment, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Denver Police later identified the likely victim as 27-year-old Naudiaerella “Naudia” Wesley of Maine, whose body had not been found as of follow-up reporting. Police confirmed Ashworth’s death was self-inflicted and did not result from police gunfire. The homicide investigation remained active.
