The vehicle was later spotted on Glasser Street, where officers attempted a traffic stop. During the stop, officers claimed that Mark D. Gaskill was holding a handgun. Two Rochester police officers then shot and killed Gaskill.

Cedric Vick, 22, was reportedly armed when he crashed near West 1st Avenue and North Perry Street after Denver Police escalated a pursuit. Police said the chase began after Vick was suspected of firing a gun and carjacking a vehicle. During the pursuit, Vick allegedly shot at officers. After the crash, police said Vick exited the car while still armed and officers opened fire, killing him.

On 05/14/2021, at approximately 3:25 p.m., deputies from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about an intoxicated and out-of-control family member at a residence on Radar Hill Road. Upon arrival, deputies confronted a man, later identified as Ty Quinton Stilwell, who was carrying a long gun. Deputies ordered him to drop the weapon, but Stilwell reportedly leveled the gun in their direction and ignored their commands. In response to the perceived threat, the deputies used deadly force, shooting and killing Stilwell.

On 05/14/2021, Fremont Police officers responded to reports of a man threatening to harm himself at a residence on South Clarmar Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. According to police, Aaron Schneider exited the residence holding a firearm and fired at least one shot. Multiple officers fired at Schneider. He was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. Reporting indicated the call involved concern for Schneider’s mental state.

On 05/13/2021, police in Visalia, California, pursued a stolen van driven by a 20-year-old man. The chase ended at the intersection of Goshen Avenue and Demaree Street when Olivarez crashed into a Ford SUV driven by 43-year-old Jessica Bingaman. Bingaman, who operated a local dog daycare business, was killed in the collision along with five of the six dogs in her vehicle.

Adrian and Hector Murillo were being followed by undercover officers, who attempted to stop them in Ellis County. The brothers fled, leading to a police pursuit. During the chase, one or both men allegedly fired at the pursuing officers. A constable from Hill County became involved in the pursuit and was shot and wounded. The vehicle driven by the Murillos crashed after being disabled by an officer. Adrian and Hector continued exchanging gunfire with the officers. Eventually, the two men surrendered. On 05/12/2021, in Bakersfield, California, law enforcement agencies responded to a reported attempted kidnapping of a juvenile in the 2200 block of Niles Street. The man fled in a vehicle, leading a pursuit southbound on Highway 99 and then northbound on Interstate 5. The chase ended when the vehicle struck the center guardrail repeatedly, became disabled just north of the I-5 split, and was involved in a standoff. SWAT officers deployed a Taser and took the adult male suspect into custody, but he became unresponsive and was transported to a hospital where he died. Troopers were dispatched to locate Philip Stanley Watros, who was reportedly armed and making homicidal and suicidal threats to an estranged girlfriend. Officers located him and his vehicle at Mexico Community Park. Due to the nature of the threats and concerns for public safety, officers established a perimeter around the area. After a 12-hour standoff, Watros reportedly shot and killed himself with a rifle.

On 05/11/2021, Stockton Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on La Cresta Way in Stockton, California. During the response, Officer Jimmy Inn was shot and killed. Police reported that Lance Lowe was involved in an exchange of gunfire with officers at the scene and reentered the residence. Lowe later exited the home holding his child. A bystander intervened and restrained Lowe. Police then shot Lowe. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On May 10, 2021, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a Louisiana State Police trooper observed a Ford Explorer traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 167 near LA Highway 749 that was driving too fast. The trooper escalated pursuit; the driver did not stop. The trooper allegedly "called off the chase" due to inclement weather and high speeds, just before the Explorer veered off the roadway, struck a parked vehicle, overturned, and hit a utility pole. The Explorer was occupied by four juveniles, including 15-year-old passenger Trashawn Blake Harrison, who was ejected from the vehicle and died. Three other juveniles were injured.

Horton might have been under the influence of an unknown substance and needed medical attention. He was taken into custody without a warrant and transferred to a medical center for a mental evaluation. Horton was released by the hospital overnight. Early the next morning, officers were called to a shooting in progress at an apartment where a woman and two children were present. On 05/09/2021, police in Greenville, South Carolina responded to a 911 call in which David “Whit” Oliver, 44, reported he was being harassed and was on the phone with the operator when gunshots were heard. Officers located Jeffrey Mark Murray a short time later and pulled him over about a mile from the initial incident. Officers located Maxwell Jerome Davis in the area and attempted to take him into custody. On 05/08/2021, Deputy R.W. Marcelle of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2003 Cadillac traveling recklessly on Martinsburg Pike (U.S. 11) near Welltown Road. The driver, identified as Kondwani Rogers of Frederick County, continued driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The deputy activated his emergency equipment, but Rogers continued south on North Frederick Pike (U.S. 522) toward Winchester. During the pursuit, the Cadillac crossed the center line, sideswiped a Honda Civic, then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Cadillac overturned and caught fire. Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene. One driver was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and another declined treatment.

On 05/08/2021, members of the Riverside Police Department’s Public Safety Engagement Team, along with code enforcement and social service personnel, encountered Felix Jerry Marquez in the 3700 block of Elizabeth Street while conducting outreach in an area frequented by people experiencing homelessness. When officers attempted to detain Marquez, he produced a handgun and aimed it toward officers. A deputy then shot Marquez. Marquez was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. A handgun was recovered next to his body at the scene.

On 05/08/2021, Clarksville Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on Hedge Apple Drive. Police arrived after reports that Adonis Traughber had shot his ex-girlfriend inside the home. When officers arrived at the scene, Traughber came out of the residence and fired shots at police. Officers returned fire, striking Traughber. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. On May 7, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Providence Police officers responded to reports of a man screaming in the street near 345 Angell Street, possibly under the influence of narcotics. Upon arrival, they encountered 34-year-old Joseph L. Ventre Jr., who was rolling on the ground and groaning unintelligibly. Officers attempted to calm Ventre and requested assistance from the Providence Fire Department. Due to his erratic behavior and for the safety of all involved, officers decided to restrain Ventre. Body camera footage shows officers holding Ventredown on his stomach for approximately 90 seconds while handcuffing him. Shortly thereafter, Ventre became unresponsive. Emergency responders initiated CPR and transported him to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m. The Rhode Island Medical Examiner later determined that Ventre's death was due to the combined toxic effects of methamphetamine and methadone during police restraint.

On May 7, 2021, law enforcement officers from the Carteret County Sheriff's Office, Morehead City Police Department, and North Carolina State Patrol pursued Richard Kelly Murphrey, 35, who was wanted on several outstanding charges such as carrying a concealed weapon, and numerous drug-related offenses.

On 05/07/2021, Calaveras County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of an argument between a man and woman at the Sierra Inn Motel in San Andreas. The suspect left the motel before deputies arrived. While deputies were interviewing the woman near an apartment complex on Lewis Avenue, the suspect ambushed and shot a deputy. The deputy and the woman were able to move to safety. Additional responding officers located the suspect inside an apartment holding an elderly female hostage. Officers attempted de-escalation and to secure the release of the hostage. The suspect did not comply with commands and remained armed. Shots were then fired, killing the suspect and injuring the hostage. The hostage and the deputy who had been shot were taken to hospitals and expected to recover.

On 05/07/2021, deputies from the Grainger County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Bean Station Police Department and Rutledge Police Department responded to a report of a man firing shots inside a residence in the 1200 block of Rocky Branch Road in Rutledge. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Robbie Leigh Hodge. During the encounter, two officers discharged their weapons, striking Hodge. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were reported injured. Investigators from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation remained at the scene to collect evidence and interviews following the shooting.

On 05/06/2021, deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence at the intersection of Mead Road and Wimberly Drive in Rochester Hills following a complaint that a man was threatening suicide. Initial contact was made with the man via phone, during which a single gunshot was heard, and communication was subsequently lost. At approximately 7 a.m., deputies entered the home and discovered the man deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On May 6, 2021, at approximately 3:54 a.m., officers from the Casper Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle. As officers approached, the driver exited the vehicle, and the passenger moved into the driver's seat and allegedly attempted to flee. One officer contacted the driver, while the other officer tried to stop the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle entered I-25, heading into oncoming traffic lanes. The officer, still inside the vehicle with the driver, continued to order the driver to stop. At this point, the officer shot and killed the driver, reportedly stopping the vehicle along the side of the Interstate.

On 05/05/2021, Los Angeles police pursued a 27-year-old man in the Hollywood neighborhood after attempting to detain him. The man fled on foot, climbed a fence, and was struck with a Taser during the pursuit. Moments later, he produced a firearm and fatally shot himself. Police reported that no officers fired their weapons. The incident is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Force Investigation Division.

On May 5, 2021, Winston-Salem Police officers responded to reports of a violent altercation at a residence in the 500 block of Lockland Avenue. Edwin "Joey" Joseph Castillo Jr., 34, was involved in chaotic interactions with housemates and police.
Castillo allegedly struck his roommate in the head with a hammer and fired shots at officers. Police opened fire, killing Castillo during the encounter. The Winston-Salem Police Department is investigating the incident and the circumstances leading to the use of deadly force.

On May 5, 2021, Matthew Robert Long barricaded himself inside his residence in Corvallis, Montana. After approximately 58 hours, authorities used a robot to enter the home, where they found Long dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On 05/05/2021, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex on Fremont Street. Officers encountered two men running through the complex and detained them. Police said the men reported they had been shot at by William Holt. Officers went to Holt’s apartment and reported hearing a gunshot from inside. As officers established a perimeter, Holt exited the apartment holding a firearm. Officer Erik Lindberg opened fire, killing Holt at the scene.
