On December 22, 2024, Evansville police officers responded to a domestic violence call at the home of Tyler J. Parrott, 47, in the 3200 block of Tiffany Court. The caller reported that Parrott had been abusive in the past and had thrown the family’s cat at the victim. Officers arrived at the residence shortly after 9 p.m. and observed Parrott inside, with a young child briefly running outside before running back inside. The mother, holding a child, was seen near the door while Parrott stood behind her.

Upon arrival, officers issued verbal commands for Parrott to drop the firearm he was reportedly holding. Instead of complying, Parrott raised the firearm and aimed it at officers. An officer fired one round, striking Parrott in the chest. The entire encounter lasted 48 seconds.

Parrott was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and remained in intensive care. He faces multiple felony charges, including intimidation with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, neglect of a dependent, and animal cruelty. Additional charges are expected in connection to the police shooting.
