A Rialto police officer Attempted to traffic stop a black Infiniti for speeding. The driver appeared to stop, but when police approached, he sped up and drove away. Two people and a police K9 were killed as a result of a police chase crash in York. A deputy reportedly attempted to traffic-stop a 2008 silver Ford F-150 seen to be driving erratically in York County. The vehicle did not immediately stop and police escalated a chase in excess of 100 miles per hour and continued to Road H and Road 18 where the vehicle stopped. Police allege that the man concealed his hands and advised officers that he wanted to die. Police claim that he advanced toward the officers and took over the marked patrol canine unit.
The man gained control of the police cruiser and another chase began.
The patrol vehicle stopped on the railroad tracks. The man then exited the vehicle and stood outside the vehicle as a train approached.
Officers tried to intervene and regain control of the patrol vehicle and retrieve the canine. The man got back into the patrol vehicle and a train blocked officers on the south which the man used to turn around and approach the train at fast speeds. The man struck a bystander vehicle at the crossing. Edinger and the K9 were killed in the crash

On 02/09/2022, 42-year-old Waldric V. Earvin of Stockton was killed when his vehicle crashed into a tree during a San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office pursuit in Stockton.

REASON FOR CHASE: Passenger killed after a Tucson Police Department officer attempted to stop the Chrysler 300 in which Oloya was riding after the driver ran a red light at South 12th Avenue and West Irvington Road. On 02/01/2022, 18-year-old Immanuel Ojok Oloya was killed when the car in which he was riding crashed into a wall after a Tucson Police Department officer attempted to stop the driver in south Tucson. The fatal crash occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Alaska Drive.

A Tucson Police Department Operations Division South officer observed a red and gray 2005 Chrysler 300 driven by 19-year-old Jose Luis Chavez run a red light at South 12th Avenue and West Irvington Road. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Chavez continued driving and entered a nearby residential neighborhood. The officer subsequently lost sight of the Chrysler.

Chavez continued driving at high speed through the neighborhood before losing control of the Chrysler in the 5400 block of South Alaska Drive and crashing into a wall. Crash data records the fatal collision at approximately 9:18 p.m. and indicates that three people were inside the vehicle.

After the collision, Chavez and another passenger got out of the Chrysler and ran from the scene. Police located Chavez in a nearby alley and detained him. The other passenger who left the vehicle was not immediately located.

Oloya was a quadruple amputee who had previously received national attention following a September 2019 encounter with a Pima County sheriff's deputy at a Tucson group home, when Oloya was 15. Cellphone video showed the deputy tackling and restraining Oloya after an argument involving another youth at the home. The incident generated national news coverage, and prosecutors subsequently dismissed a disorderly-conduct charge against Oloya after reviewing the video.

On 02/01/2022, 22-year-old Jesus Adrian Alvarado of Mission was killed on U.S. Highway 281 north of Edinburg after the Chevrolet pickup in which he was riding was pursued by U.S. Border Patrol agents. The incident occurred at approximately 9:14 p.m.

A Border Patrol agent at an observation location approximately 35 miles north of McAllen saw a Chevrolet Silverado traveling north on U.S. Highway 281 with several people lying in the bed of the truck. The agent radioed the information to other Border Patrol agents conducting highway operations farther north.

The Silverado passed two marked Border Patrol vehicles near mile marker 750. Both agents followed the pickup and activated their emergency lights and sirens. The driver continued north for approximately three-quarters of a mile before stopping in the highway median near mile marker 748.

Multiple occupants got out and ran. Alvarado crossed the highway and was struck by a passing vehicle. Texas DPS subsequently publicly identified him as 22-year-old Jesus Adrian Alvarado of Mission.

Border Patrol agents immediately began CPR and requested Hidalgo County EMS, Texas DPS and an air ambulance. EMS continued lifesaving efforts, but Alvarado was pronounced dead at the scene.

REASON FOR CHASE: A Deschutes County sheriff's deputy observed Peaslee driving approximately 90 to 100 mph and repeatedly crossing the center line into oncoming traffic. The deputy suspected that Peaslee was driving under the influence and activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop.

On 01/31/2022, 50-year-old Lisa Marie Peaslee of Bend was killed when her Toyota Scion crashed during a Deschutes County Sheriff's Office pursuit on Johnson Ranch Road north of Alfalfa in Deschutes County.

At approximately 7 p.m., a Deschutes County sheriff's deputy observed Peaslee driving approximately 90 to 100 mph on Johnson Ranch Road. The deputy also reported seeing Peaslee repeatedly weave across the center line, including into the path of oncoming traffic. Suspecting that Peaslee was driving under the influence, the deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop.

Peaslee continued driving and the deputy pursued her. An area resident traveling south on Johnson Ranch Road with her husband subsequently told local news that they saw the approaching police lights, pulled over and watched Peaslee's vehicle speed past them followed by the sheriff's patrol vehicle.

During the pursuit, Peaslee's Toyota crossed the southbound lane approximately one-half mile south of Stearns Road and struck a rock embankment along the southbound shoulder. The vehicle rolled and came to rest in the roadway. Peaslee was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators reported that speed and alcohol appeared to be contributing factors and stated that an open alcohol container was found at the crash scene.

Oregon State Police investigated the fatal collision. Bend Police Department collision-reconstruction personnel also participated in the investigation. Johnson Ranch Road remained closed for approximately seven hours while investigators processed the scene.

The Deschutes County District Attorney's Office separately reviewed the deputy's actions. Cynthia Coe, 55, was driving down the street in her Hyundai Electra on January 31, 2022, she was hit head-on and killed by a vehicle owned by Lumberton PD that had been chasing another driver. The chase had started when police spotted a vehicle reported stolen earlier that day. Cynthia Coe’s passenger was seriously injured.

Tennessee Highway Patrol escalated a chase of a vehicle. The driver, Kala Michele Lamb, fled and accidentally veered into oncoming traffic, hitting another car head-on. She died in the crash. On 01/30/2022, 22-year-old Elijah Charles “Eli” Morley of Dandridge was killed when his vehicle crashed during a Tennessee Highway Patrol pursuit in Anderson County. His passenger, Dustin Dienst of Morristown, was critically injured and subsequently died from his injuries on February 8.

At approximately 2 p.m., Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Austin Dean pursued the vehicle occupied by Morley and Dienst. Anderson County District Attorney General Dave Clark subsequently confirmed that the pursuit traveled over multiple roadways before reaching the area of Norris Freeway/Highway 441 and Mountain Road in an unincorporated portion of Anderson County.
