On 11/11/2025, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a man swinging a metal chain at pedestrians and vehicles near Kalmia Street and 103rd Street in Watts. The man ignored commands to surrender and advanced while wielding the chain. After less lethal measures failed, officers opened fire. The man was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead. No officers or bystanders were injured.

On 11/06/2025, South San Francisco Police responded to a welfare check at a home on Nursery Way. Two occupants were escorted out of the residence. Police fired flash bangs and other tactical devices. Two gunshots were heard. A SWAT team entered and found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On 11/05/2025, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check call at a home on the 1700 block of Krysten Terrace in Alpine, California. Deputies encountered a man in his 70s who allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm at them. Deputies opened fire, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The California Department of Justice is conducting an independent investigation under Assembly Bill 1506, which mandates state review of all police shootings resulting in civilian deaths.

On 10/27/2025, at approximately 7:28 p.m., Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop near Fruitdale Avenue and Leigh Avenue in San Jose, California. The man barricaded himself inside his vehicle for more than two hours. Deputies deployed less-lethal measures including pepper balls and rubber bullets. The man then exited the vehicle armed with a large knife and advanced toward deputies. Officers opened fire, striking him. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m. The San Jose Police Department and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office are conducting independent investigations.

On October 25, 2025, deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a motorcyclist near Highway 111 and Deep Canyon Road in Palm Desert. The driver did not stop, and deputies chased the motorcycle at high speed. The pursuit ended when the motorcyclist ran a red light and crashed into a bystander’s vehicle at the intersection of Country Club Drive and John L. Sinn Road in Rancho Mirage. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
