Around 8:20 p.m. on May 12, 2025, LAPD officers from the Southwest Division initiated a pursuit of a driver believed to be wanted for DUI. Officers claimed to have called off the chase near Crenshaw Boulevard and Vernon Avenue, but moments later, an LAPD patrol car who had been part of the pursuit struck a red sedan at high speed, critically injuring a 31-year-old woman inside. The woman was later pronounced dead. The patrol car caught fire. Officers escaped. At least four others were injured, including a 12-year-old boy. The pursued driver was not caught. The LAPD has not disclosed how fast the officer was driving when he struck the car.

On April 17, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Newport Beach police conducted a traffic stop on a motorcyclist along Pacific Coast Highway near Superior Avenue. Police engaged him in an altercation. The man, 45-year-old Geoffrey Shyam Stirling of Laguna Niguel, allegedly attempted to use the officer's taser. An officer opened fire, striking Stirling. On April 14, 2025, San Diego police responded to a report of a man with a rifle partially concealed in his jacket near Sanger Place and Blanche Street in San Ysidro. At approximately 11:00 a.m. on April 4, 2025, San Diego Police responded to a report of a man with a gun near the 3100 block of Imperial Avenue in the Stockton neighborhood of Southeastern San Diego. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man who allegedly pointed a revolver at them. Officers opened fire and killed him at the scene. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is conducting the investigation.

On April 3, 2025, a Chinese woman detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement died by suicide while held at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego. She had recently crossed the U.S.-Mexico border seeking asylum and was taken into federal custody. ICE reported she was found unresponsive in her cell and pronounced dead shortly after. At approximately 6:08 a.m., deputies at Monterey County Jail responded to a disturbance in jail and found a male detained person unresponsive. He had been assaulted by another detained person and was transported to Natividad Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

On March 30, 2025, deputies at the Robert Presley Detention Center found 49-year-old Stephen Alan Frost unresponsive in his cell. Jail staff and paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but Frost was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been booked on March 25 for public intoxication and obstructing an officer, and was also held on a felony warrant. He was being held without bail. No foul play was reported.

On March 29, 2025, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Clovis Police officers attempted to stop a Dodge Charger near Temperance and Gettysburg Avenues after observing reckless driving. The 18-year-old driver, Luis Felix, fled southbound on Temperance Avenue, initiating a pursuit. At the intersection of Temperance and Belmont Avenues, the Charger clipped a Toyota Camry stopped at a stop sign, causing the Camry to spin. The Charger then collided with an oncoming Chevrolet Tahoe. Two 19-year-old male passengers in the Charger were pronounced dead at the scene.

On March 29, 2025, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a man firing a gun in his backyard on the 8600 block of Blythe Avenue in Orangevale. Deputies and SWAT units arrived, leading to a standoff. Just before 10 p.m., the suspect allegedly shot towards deputies, who returned fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene; no deputies were injured.

A juvenile male died on March 28, 2025, after a high-speed crash in Los Angeles. LAPD officers attempted a traffic stop on a burgundy SUV suspected of DUI. The SUV fled and police briefly pursued before terminating due to safety concerns. Moments later, the SUV ran a red light at Century Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard, struck a Honda sedan, then slammed into a traffic pole. The driver was killed on impact. Two passengers, ages 19 and 22, fled the scene but were apprehended. One had an active warrant. The Honda driver sustained minor injuries. LAPD is investigating and seeking witnesses.

Officers allegedly “called off the chase” Century Boulevard and Concourse Way due to high speeds moments before the vehicle crashed into another car at Sepulveda Boulevard and Century Boulevard. A male passenger in the fleeing vehicle died at the crash site. The driver fled on foot but was arrested. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Police escalated a pursuit, during which the man lost control of the vehicle near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Greenfield Avenue and crashed into a tree. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were reported.
