Around 5:30 a.m., Michigan State Police and the Flint Area Narcotics Group executed a drug raid at a residence on River Grove Road. A 49-year-old man confronted officers with a shotgun. He refused to drop the weapon and was shot and killed by a trooper. A 47-year-old woman was also shot and survived. Two other men were arrested and a juvenile was taken into custody. The Michigan State Police Second District Special Investigation Section is investigating.

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Michigan State Police troopers assigned to the Metro Detroit Auto-Theft Recovery Team (MDART) were conducting an undercover investigation in the 20200 block of Murray Hill Street on Detroit's west side. During the operation, 23-year-old Martez Hunter Britt exited a vehicle and allegedly opened fire on the troopers, striking one officer three times, injuring him. Troopers returned fire, fatally wounding Britt. The injured trooper was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital and was reported to be in serious but stable condition.
Family members of Britt have expressed skepticism regarding the official account, questioning whether the undercover officers identified themselves as law enforcement prior to the shooting. The Detroit Police Department's Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation, with findings to be submitted to the Michigan Attorney General's Office for review.

On 05/05/2025, at approximately 7:45 a.m., a Muskegon Heights police officer encountered a disturbance while on his way to work along Baker Street. A man shot the officer in the arm and fled. A short time later, the man was seen on Reynolds Street firing at a passing vehicle. A homeowner confronted him and returned fire, wounding him. The man fled again and was later located in an alley on Howden Street. When he pointed his weapon at officers, they opened fire and killed him. Deputies from the Benzie County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on a stolen SUV linked to an assault complaint in Antrim County. The driver did not stop. Deputies escalated a westbound chase on M-115. Approximately 1.5 miles into the pursuit, at unknown speed, the SUV crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound van carrying six Charlevoix High School varsity golf team members and their coach. The fleeing driver was killed. All occupants of the van were injured and transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, with the coach airlifted via Aero-Med helicopter.

Detroit police attempted a traffic stop around 8 p.m. on a stolen vehicle from Redford. As officers approached, the driver sped off. Police chased him briefly until they observed smoke and discovered a two-vehicle crash at Murray Hill Street and Puritan Avenue. The fleeing driver had struck another vehicle, killing the 60-year-old male bystander.

On April 6, 2025, Ingham County deputies responded to reports of a man walking in and out of traffic on U.S. 127 near Barnes Road. Deputies encountered the man, who was armed with a knife. After attempts to de-escalate, the man advanced toward officers with the weapon. Deputies opened fire and killed him at the scene. Michigan State Police is investigating. The man’s identity has not been released.

Corin Mitchell Skinner, 33, was reported walking in the street with a knife, threatening to harm himself and stating he wanted police to shoot him. On March 30, 2025, a 43-year-old male was arrested by Battle Creek Police on a charge of indecent exposure and booked into Calhoun County Jail. He was placed in an observation holding area and monitored. Around 5:30 a.m., staff found him unresponsive and experiencing a medical emergency. He was pronounced dead at 5:52 a.m. The Michigan State Police are investigating the death.

Around 2:45 a.m., Buchanan Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving in the wrong lane on Front Street. The driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase onto South Redbud Trail. After crossing railroad tracks, the vehicle went airborne, hit a tree, and crashed into a house near Hobart Street. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No one in the home was injured. The Michigan State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating.

On March 10, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Warren Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in the 27000 block of Railroad Street. A woman reported that a man with a knife had left the home before officers arrived. Officers searched the area and located him near the intersection of George Merrelli Drive and Lorna Avenue. Police stated that during the encounter, the man brandished an icepick. Officers opened fire, striking him. He was transported to a hospital by the Warren Fire Department, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.

A Monroe County sheriff's deputy fatally shot an individual during an alleged assault on 12/28/2024 in Exeter Township, Michigan. On November 8, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the Grand Rapids Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man waving a "gun-shaped object" near Trinity Health Grand Rapids. Officers arrived at the scene and encountered 38-year-old Henry Wymer, who allegedly pointed the object at officers. In response, three officers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Wymer. Chief Eric Winstrom indicated that Wymer had a known history of mental health issues, which were known to police. On October 28, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police began pursuing 16-year-old Cortez McConer Jr. after he fled on foot following a traffic stop. He had been a passenger in a car police investigated as possibly stolen. According to the record, the Grand Rapids Police Department officers chased him on foot through a wooded area near Courtland Drive and Kies Street in Rockford, Michigan for several miles into a body of water, which authorities later confirmed was a secluded area south of downtown Rockford. Police alleged that they could not find him.

On 11/02/2024, search crews discovered McConer's body in a heavily wooded area near the water. The Kent County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the cause of death as accidental drowning.

On October 16, 2024, at approximately 12:48 p.m., officers from the Albion Department of Public Safety (ADPS) responded to a domestic disturbance in Albion. The 28-year-old male, who had an outstanding felony warrant for assault, fled the scene and was later located at his residence in Homer Township. Upon arrival, deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office observed the man entering his home around 1:14 p.m. He then fled into a nearby cornfield.

A drone and K-9 unit were deployed to search for the individual. A neighbor reported seeing him with a handgun, running between fields. A deputy soon spotted him near the intersection of 25 ½ Mile Road and R Drive South, where the individual appeared from behind a tree displaying the handgun. Within seconds, the individual fired a single shot, resulting in his death by suicide.

On October 8, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Detroit police officers were on routine patrol near Balduck Park when they recognized a man from a previous narcotics case. Officers escalated a high-speed chase that lasted several minutes. Alfredo Mojica Majin, the driver, lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of 32nd Street and South Shore Drive. On September 17, 2024, Chelsea Lynette Heugel, a 23-year-old mother of three, was in custody at the 36th District Court in Detroit, Michigan, awaiting arraignment on charges including operating a stolen vehicle and fleeing police. While detained, Ms. Heugel attempted suicide using a cord from a payphone. Despite immediate medical attention, she was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

On 09/13/2024, at approximately 8:40 a.m., a 38-year-old female driver was traveling northbound on I-75 near Dix Highway in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Her Ford Explorer struck the median wall before continuing down the freeway and colliding with a Michigan State Police patrol vehicle. The patrol vehicle, occupied by Motor Carrier Officer (MCO) Daniel Kerstetter, was conducting a traffic stop on a semi-truck on the right shoulder. The impact pushed the patrol vehicle into the rear of the semi-truck. The female driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Kerstetter was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Officer Kerstetter succumbed to his injuries and was taken off life support on 09/15/2024.
