After the crash, Greene allegedly revved the engine and displayed a firearm. Tasers deployed by officers were ineffective, and Greene reportedly fired at them, striking Officer Cade Moritz in the head and Officer Jacob Boekhoff in the arm.

On January 24, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers from the Sioux City Police Department observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed near Gordon Drive and Spalding Street. The vehicle, a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by 40-year-old Melissa Thede of Churdan, Iowa, did not stop when officers attempted a traffic stop.

Officers escalated a high-speed pursuit to speeds in excess of 100 mph. The pursuit continued into a more congested area, prompting supervisors to direct officers to stop the chase.

Immediately after the pursuit ended, Thede’s vehicle, still speeding from the chase, collided with another car at the intersection of Gordon Drive and Spalding Street. Her vehicle overturned upon impact and came to rest in the roadway. Emergency responders transported her to MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

On January 8, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a Sioux City Police Department officer was parked inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino parking garage when a white truck approached and rammed the patrol vehicle head-on. The driver, identified as 55-year-old Salvador Perez-Garcia of Sioux City, then exited the garage and encountered additional responding officers. Perez-Garcia drove directly at a second patrol vehicle, ramming it head-on.

He then exited his truck, swinging a length of chain with an affixed metal object in an aggressive, threatening manner. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and physically disarm him but were unsuccessful. Perez-Garcia refused to comply with officers' commands and continued to approach them while swinging the object. Officers fired their duty weapons, striking him.

Perez-Garcia died at the scene. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducted an investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the report was submitted to the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office for review. On January 1, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Cedar Rapids Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired at a residence in the 400 block of Longwood Drive NE. Witnesses reported that a sedan had driven past the residence, and an individual inside fired shots at the home.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Michael Griffin of Cedar Rapids, did not stop. Officers escalated a pursuit spanning nearly six miles, during which Griffin allegedly fired an AR-15 rifle at least twice from his vehicle at pursuing officers.

At some point during the pursuit, a 17-year-old male passenger exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. Officers continued chasing Griffin, eventually employing a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle in the 5600 block of Mount Vernon Road.

After the vehicle was stopped, officers reported hearing a gunshot from inside Griffin's car. Believing Griffin was continuing to fire, five CRPD officers—Sergeant Graham Campshure, Officer Christopher Hettinger, Officer Jonathan McDowell, Officer Loren Culver, and Officer Dylan Hall—opened fire, striking Griffin. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon completion, the facts and circumstances were reviewed by the Linn County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
