On the morning of October 26, 2025, officers of the Howard County Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2013 Honda Accord near Maryland Route 29 and Rogers Avenue in Ellicott City. The driver did not stop. The officer allegedly did not engage in a pursuit but shortly thereafter, the vehicle struck a utility pole on Rogers Avenue just south of Faber Way and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. On 10/08/2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Baltimore County Police responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on the 2100 block of Larkhall Road in Dundalk. Officers reported seeing Robert Adams in a second-floor window and opened fire. The situation escalated into a barricade that lasted several hours. When officers entered the home two hours later, they found Adams with gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene. Two firearms were recovered near the window.

The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is reviewing the incident, and Chief Morris has been placed on restricted duty.

On 09/23/2025, at approximately 7:55 p.m., deputies with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a motorcycle driven by 39-year-old David Martin Sweet Jr. of Lothian. The operator refused to stop, and police escalated a chase with speeds exceeding 120 mph while traveling the wrong way on Route 4. The motorcycle struck a vehicle near Chaneyville Road in Dunkirk, killing Sweet at the scene. A 14-year-old female passenger on the motorcycle was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital with serious injuries.

On 08/26/2025 around 3:30 p.m., Seat Pleasant Police, monitoring a stolen vehicle driven by four juvenile males, followed it from a distance while awaiting aerial support from the Prince George’s County Police Department. The officer was directed to disengage before the stolen vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Sheriff Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, colliding with a vehicle occupied by Shaunte Denise Canty and her child. Canty was pronounced dead at the scene. Her child survived with non–life threatening injuries. The juveniles were taken into custody; three were hospitalized with non–life threatening injuries.

On 08/15/2025, at approximately 6:45 a.m., a Howard County Police Department officer assigned to the Technical Support Section was on duty and operating a 2019 GMC Acadia, an unmarked police vehicle, in the Dobbin Center parking lot in Columbia. The officer struck a 93-year-old woman who was walking in the travel portion of the lot. She was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Investigators stated speed was not believed to be a factor. The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation.

Late on June 24, 2025, Donte Melton Jr., 31, was in a mental health crisis when he approached a Baltimore Police officer in a marked cruiser at a red light on West Franklin Street near North Franklintown Road. He walked into traffic and allegedly resisted officers. Police engaged him in what the preliminary report calls a “violent scuffle” before they placed him in handcuffs and leg shackles. Officers requested medical assistance repeatedly—first at approximately 9:48 p.m. and again at 9:55 p.m.—but Baltimore’s CAD system was down, and no medic arrived. After Melton became unresponsive on the pavement, officers placed him in their vehicle and drove him to a hospital. It is unknown how long he was down restrained in cuffs and leg shackles on the pavement before he finally arrived at the hospital. He died about 5½ hours after the initial encounter, before midnight or in the early morning hours of June 25. Melton remained unresponsive on the pavement before being transported. While the exact duration has not been disclosed, his mother describes him lying helplessly on hot asphalt while officers discussed how to get him help. No EMS ever arrived during that time. His mother, Eleshiea Goode, has pressed for transparency and accountability, citing delayed or denied access to records including those from the medical examiner and hospital, and frustration over the lack of communication about body-worn camera footage or the circumstances of death. The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division named 10 officers involved and has delayed releasing the body-worn video due to the technical complexity and volume of footage involved. His exact cause of death has not been made public. The investigation is ongoing and his mother is demanding answers.

6/17/2025: Baltimore Police allegedly detected suspected gun possession by Abdullah while police were patrolling in an unmarked cruiser. "Officer T", not further identified, in a first attempt to detain, exited the car but Abdullah broke contact and fled on foot. Detective Yancy and two detectives pursued. Yancy tackled Abdullah and a single shot sounded. Abdullah had fired at Yancy’s vest. Yancy took cover. The other two detectives drew their weapons and fired in return. Collectively, they discharged 38 rounds. One detective was struck in the foot amidst the exchange. Abdullah was transported to Shock Trauma and died at 11:14 p.m. Abdullah was a known Baltimore “arabber” which is a city tradition of horse-drawn produce vendors. He walked his route daily and mentored neighborhood youth. Community leaders and family members described him as humble, generous, and a local legend in preserving cultural history. He carried fruit to children and extended credit to elders, actions filmed in a 2014 feature by Eater and acknowledged in a public outpouring following his death. After the shooting, a crowd formed. Bystanders confronted police, delaying immediate aid for Abdullah for several minutes. Baltimore’s Police Accountability Board called an emergency meeting. Outcry has centered on whether the level of force matched the threat and about Abdullah's declining mental health. Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is leading the review.

A Jeep Cherokee driven by 30-year-old Saidou Zanguina of Columbia, Maryland, struck the trooper’s unmarked patrol vehicle. The collision forced Zanguina’s Jeep back into active lanes of traffic, causing a five-vehicle chain reaction crash involving a GMC Sierra pickup truck, a Lincoln Aviator SUV, and a Volkswagen Passat. Zanguina was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other drivers and passengers, including the trooper, sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals. At approximately 7:30 a.m., Baltimore County Police responded to a report of shots fired damaging a home on Gray Manor Terrace. When officers arrived, they were shot at from a nearby house. Police returned fire, backed off, and initiated a barricade. A woman inside the home was believed to be held against her will. Nearby residents were told to shelter in place and three schools were placed on lockout status. After hours of failed negotiations, police entered and found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman was found unharmed. No officers were injured.

Fred Eromosele Ehimen, 49, was driving a Toyota Camry on the ramp from westbound Interstate 70 to southbound U.S. 29 in Ellicott City when Maryland State Police chased a 17-year-old driving an allegedly stolen Ford Explorer onto the ramp going the wrong way and struck him head-on. The driver initially stopped but then fled northbound onto Addison Road South. The officer lost sight of the vehicle and broadcasted its description. Officers from both District Heights and Capitol Heights police departments later spotted the Infiniti and attempted another stop. Moments later, the Infiniti collided with four vehicles in the 1200 block of Addison Road South. Three-year-old Zoey Rose Marie Harrison, a passenger in one of the struck vehicles, was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her mother sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Infiniti was arrested and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The involved officers were equipped with body-worn cameras, and two vehicles had dash cameras, all of which are under review as part of the ongoing investigation.
