On May 18, 2025, Case Taylor Chrouser, 38, was fatally shot by Mohave County Sheriff's Office SWAT deputies during a standoff in Lake Havasu City when police were attempting to arrest Chrouser on multiple charges. After deploying gas, SWAT officers entered the residence and found Chrouser barricaded in a bathroom. Using a camera, they observed him pointing a firearm at the door. On the morning of May 15, 2025, around 8:30 AM, Central Police Department officers initiated a pursuit of a 2005 Honda Accord driven by 32-year-old Jeremy Basquette. The chase proceeded west on Highway 93 towards Clemson. As Basquette attempted to exit onto Highway 76, his vehicle veered off the left side of the road, struck an embankment, and overturned. Emergency responders transported Basquette to Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Pickens County Coroner determined the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, not injuries from the crash. Authorities later indicated that Basquette may be connected to the disappearance of 68-year-old Steve Whitmire, who was reported missing from his home on Whitmire Hill Road late Wednesday night. On 05/15/2025, Houston Police Department officers responded to a suicide-in-progress call at an apartment complex at 9255 West Sam Houston Parkway South. A woman told officers her brother was threatening self-harm. As officers approached, the man exited with a large knife and charged at them. Officers backed away, but one officer opened fire and struck the man. He was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died. HPD identified the shooter officer as N. Ruiz-Valbuena, a 23-year-old with 18 months of service.

On 05/15/2025, deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop on Sheraton Drive. During the stop, the driver of the vehicle did not stop. Deputies escalated a high-speed chase and alleged that they lost sight of the vehicle and “called off the chase.” Moments later, the vehicle that was still fleeing ran a traffic light at the intersection of Sheraton Drive and Old Jackson Highway and collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle caught fire upon impact.
Deputies and emergency services responded to the scene, extracting occupants from the burning vehicle. Jaquavious Baptiste, a 16-year-old front-seat passenger from Elko, South Carolina, was transported to Wellstar MCG, where he was pronounced dead at 9:23 p.m. Other passengers sustained injuries and were treated at a local hospital.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious individual near Timothy Drive and Corinne Street in Hattiesburg. Upon arrival, the person allegedly displayed a firearm, and a confrontation followed. Police received multiple 911 calls about a man swinging a knife at cars in the 500 block of 16th Avenue. Officers found Sean Ybarra in the 1900 block of 2nd Street still armed with a knife and reportedly yelling at passing vehicles. When Ybarra advanced toward an officer with the knife, the officer opened fire. Ybarra was pronounced dead at the scene. The Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.
