Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, a 22-year-old Black male and undocumented worker from Mauritania, was found unresponsive in his cell at Cook County Jail in Chicago on 12/02/2024. Abdallahi had been arrested on 10/26/2024 following a shooting incident near a synagogue in Chicago, where he allegedly shot a 39-year-old Jewish man and fired at responding first responders. He faced multiple charges, including terrorism, hate crimes, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer. After being severely wounded during the incident, he was hospitalized and later transferred to the jail's medical facility on 11/15/2024. On 12/02/2024, during a routine security check, jail personnel found Abdallahi unresponsive due to an apparent suicide by hanging. Life-saving measures were initiated, but he was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.
