OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On January 15, 2025, at approximately 5:33 p.m., officers from the Navajo Police Department's Window Rock District and a deputy from the Apache County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in Wide Ruins, Arizona, following reports of a possible stabbing and a male individual threatening others with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man with a weapon.
Officers attempted to negotiate with the individual for about an hour. Despite these efforts, the man advanced toward the officers while holding the weapon. Officers opened fire and killed him.
The Navajo Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting.
