OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/14/2025, just before 1:00 AM, four inmates at Estrella Jail in Phoenix received medical care for suspected overdoses. One of the inmates was pronounced dead in the cell. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation. An autopsy is scheduled. Investigators believe the drugs, suspected to be fentanyl, were smuggled into the jail concealed in body cavities.
