On 03/16/2026, Eastpointe police investigated an armed robbery at a residence on Firwood Street. The following day, officers located the man and attempted a traffic stop. The driver did not stop. Police chased the vehicle through Metro Detroit until it crashed near 8 Mile Road and I-75. After the crash, the man shot himself and died. Police reported the pursuit followed identification of the vehicle connected to the robbery and ended when the vehicle became disabled.

On 03/15/2026, Phoenix police responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment complex near 43rd Avenue and Medlock Drive. Officers found a woman and her young daughter trapped behind a locked patio gate and forced it open to evacuate them after the woman said the man had cocked a gun. During a prolonged standoff, officers deployed a drone before the man fired at it with a shotgun and later fired multiple rounds from inside the apartment toward officers. Police returned fire and killed Justin Carl Schmidt.

On 03/15/2026, an Elizabethtown officer observed a Ford F-150 driving west on West High Street without headlights or taillights and moving erratically with smoke coming from the vehicle. The officer activated emergency lights and a siren to initiate a traffic stop. The truck continued about two miles before pulling onto the berm in the 700 block of West Bainbridge Street. Before officers approached, David Bain shot himself. Officers removed him from the vehicle and EMS responded. He was pronounced dead at 3:22 a.m. An autopsy determined he died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the death a suicide.
