On August 3, 2025, at approximately 12:14 p.m., an Irondequoit police officer attempted to stop a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle speeding on Titus Avenue. The driver failed to stop and continued north onto Culver Road. Officers lost visual contact near Sweet Fern Road, temporarily ending the pursuit. Shortly thereafter, another officer located the motorcycle after it had crashed on Lakeshore Boulevard. The motorcycle collided with a Nissan SUV near the Durand Eastman Beach parking lot. The 24-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is conducting a full investigation into the crash and pursuit.

Hollywood Police conducted a surveillance operation targeting Donald Taylor in Miramar. Around 12:50 a.m., Sturgis police attempted to stop a motorcyclist for exhibition riding near the Iron Horse Saloon. The driver continued driving on U.S. Highway 14A and lost control, crashing into a ditch. He was transported to a hospital, where he died the following day. This was one of four fatalities reported during the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as of August 4.

On 08/02/2025, Taos County deputies responded to a disorderly conduct call on NM-522 in Arroyo Hondo. Deputies found 64-year-old Patrick Edward Walsh lying in the street and refusing to move. At approximately 5:15 p.m. on August 2, 2025, Columbus police were conducting an investigation near 13th Street and 30th Avenue when Lauree Jankowski allegedly attacked an officer with a knife. Another officer discharged their firearm and shot her. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting an outside investigation. As required by Nebraska state law, the case will be presented to a grand jury for review.

On August 2, 2025, around 1:30 p.m., Statesville Police responded to a shooting on Fifth Street near Highway 70 and found 51-year-old Surtonia Burton in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital but died from her injuries. Police identified 26-year-old Titeon Burton as the shooter and later located him around 4:45 p.m. When officers attempted to apprehend him, he ran and fatally shot himself as they approached. Deputies encountered an unresponsive person lying in the roadway near Abernathy Road and Midnight Road in Inman. The individual was arrested for public disorderly conduct and pedestrian in the roadway. At the Spartanburg County Detention Center, deputies attempted to remove the individual’s handcuffs and place them in a holding cell when the person became aggressive. A deputy deployed a Taser. The individual then experienced a medical emergency, was given CPR, and was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where they later died. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting the investigation.

On 07/31/2025, Iron County deputies attempted a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 15 for speeding. The driver, 83-year-old John Edgar Beck, continued driving and allegedly forced other vehicles off the road. Deputies performed a PIT maneuver between mile markers 71 and 72, causing Beck’s vehicle to crash. He was killed in the wreck. The case remains under investigation.

Reports indicate shots had already been fired at passing vehicles before officers even arrived. Officers encountered Cody Haffner, armed with a gun, at the scene and opened fire, resulting in an apparent exchange of gunfire. One nearby resident described hearing “a burst of gunfire… shortly thereafter… sounded like a machine gun… very rapid shots.” Haffner was transported to a hospital, where he died the next morning, 07/31/2025. The southbound lanes of I 5 remained closed for several hours—reopening by early morning. The incident is under investigation by CHP’s Valley Division Investigative Services Unit and the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.
