On July 24, 2025, Kansas City police responded to a 911 call reporting a man pointing a handgun at an ambulance traveling along Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard. Witnesses confirmed Rodney Aubrey pointed the weapon at both the ambulance and officers. Police arrived within minutes and ordered him to drop the gun. Instead, Aubrey fled on foot, firing backward at officers during his escape. Officers shot him, and he was transported to a hospital, where he died later that evening. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting, with findings to be reviewed by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

His wife also died at the scene.

On June 22, 2025, around 2 a.m., officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Manchester Avenue near Sarah Street in The Grove neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers encountered a person who reportedly opened fire on them. Police returned fire and shot the individual, who died at the scene. The department is reviewing body-worn camera footage and the incident is under investigation.

On June 17, 2025, Concordia Police began pursuing a motorcycle ridden by Francis Alcantar-Chavez, who was wanted in Arizona for the murder of his mother and stepfather. Highway Patrol troopers picked up the chase near Sweet Springs. Francis crashed into a trooper’s patrol car, then fled on foot. A trooper chased him. Francis drew a handgun and fired at the trooper, striking his bullet-resistant vest. The trooper fired back and struck Francis, resulting in his death. Both his mother and stepfather had been law enforcement officers.
