On May 11, 2025, South Whitehall Township Police responded to an incident at the Weis Markets grocery store located in the 1500 block of North Cedar Crest Boulevard. During the police response, 45-year-old Timothy D. Vanbilliard of Emmaus was involved in an undisclosed incident. He was transported to the emergency department at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, where he was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m.
An autopsy was conducted on May 13, 2025, by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office. The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation, including toxicology and microscopic studies. The incident is under joint investigation by the South Whitehall Township Police Department, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.

On May 9, 2025, at approximately 2:46 a.m., Pittsburgh police responded to reports of a man acting erratically and walking in and out of traffic near Saw Mill Run Boulevard and Bausman Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered 29-year-old James Richard Brown Jr., who attempted to enter a police vehicle and refused commands. Officers took him to the ground and placed him in custody, observing injuries to his head and road rash. Emergency Medical Services were called to treat him. While being attended to by paramedics, Brown went into cardiac arrest and was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Prior to the police encounter, Brown had exited his vehicle, leaving it running, and walked away, leading the vehicle to drift into a building. Witnesses reported that he attempted to enter a pickup truck, which drove away, dragging him toward Warrington Avenue. The Allegheny County Police Department is investigating the incident.

On April 28, 2025, Jerome Cooper, 51, allegedly shot a 32-year-old man in the abdomen during a carjacking at a Public Storage facility near G Street and East Hunting Park Avenue in Philadelphia. A 29-year-old witness reportedly exchanged gunfire with Cooper during the incident.
Cooper fled in the victim's Toyota Camry, leading police on a high-speed chase through multiple districts. During the pursuit, Cooper allegedly fired at officers, with evidence of a fired cartridge casing found on the 700 block of East Cheltenham Avenue.
The chase concluded when Cooper's vehicle crashed into a tree in a grassy median at Roosevelt Boulevard and Langdon Street in the city's Summerdale section. As Cooper exited the vehicle armed, seven officers discharged their weapons, striking him multiple times. He was transported to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 32-year-old shooting victim was hospitalized in stable condition. The involvement of the 29-year-old witness is under investigation.

On April 26, 2025, at approximately 7:34 p.m., Ambler Borough Police officers responded to a disturbance near Forrest Avenue and School Street in Ambler, Pennsylvania. They encountered 43-year-old Robert Aguilar Cholula holding a large butcher-style knife. Officers alleged that Cholula charged toward them. One officer deployed a taser, which failed to stop him. Another officer opened fire, striking Cholula. He was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital, where he later died. The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is leading the investigation, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.

About a quarter mile from the initial stop, near the Cressona Mall entrance, Williams rear-ended a black SUV in a turn lane, causing a multi-vehicle crash. On April 6, 2025, around 5:00 p.m., Pottstown officers responded to a vehicle crash near Beech and North Mount Vernon Streets. The driver, 25-year-old Andrew Jackson Ecker, left on foot to his residence on Winding Road. Officers discovered a .22 caliber firearm in his vehicle. Ecker reportedly fired at officers, striking one in the shoulder. A five-hour standoff followed. When Ecker refused to surrender, officers opened fire and killed him. Police encountered Aaron Rainey, 36, running naked through traffic in the 5000 block of Torresdale Avenue. Officers said he was experiencing a mental health crisis and agreed to voluntary commitment. He was placed unrestrained into a police wagon and transported to Friends Hospital. Upon arrival, for unknown reasons, the officers engaged in an altercation during which they allege that he tried to take a taser. During the struggle, he allegedly gained control of an officer’s gun and shot the other officer in the bulletproof vest. The second officer opened fire and shot Rainey multiple times. Rainey was transported to Einstein Hospital, where he died.

On March 15, 2025, at approximately 7:31 p.m., Forks Township Police officers pursued a 2016 Kia driven by a 65-year-old male from Easton, Pennsylvania. The pursuit ended near North Broadway and Tribe Lane in Wind Gap Borough when the vehicle became disabled. An armed confrontation ensued, during which the man shot himself, and a Forks Township officer also fired their weapon. He was transported to Saint Luke’s Anderson Campus, where he was pronounced dead.

On 02/22/2025, 49-year-old Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz entered the Intensive Care Unit of UPMC Memorial Hospital at 1701 Innovation Dr., York, Pennsylvania, armed with a handgun and carrying zip ties. He took several staff members hostage, binding one female staff member's hands. Upon arrival, officers from the West York Borough Police Department engaged Archangel-Ortiz. During the confrontation, Archangel-Ortiz shot and killed Officer Andrew Duarte and wounded two other officers. Three hospital staff members—a doctor, a nurse, and a custodian—were also injured by gunfire. Officers subsequently shot and killed Archangel-Ortiz. York County District Attorney Tim Barker stated that Archangel-Ortiz had prior contact with the ICU earlier in the week for a medical purpose involving another individual, indicating the attack was targeted. On February 11, 2025, at approximately 8:56 p.m., Philadelphia Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop near 23rd Street and Lehigh Avenue. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Brandon Williams, drove away. Police escalated a chase that lasted until Williams crashed thevehicle near 23rd and Clearfield Streets and continued on foot. On January 12, 2025, Joshua D. Moser from Slatington, Pennsylvania, who was charged with murder, was found dead in his cell from suicide at Lehigh County Jail in Allentown. He had been arrested and placed in jail for the alleged murder of his roommate.

On December 27, 2024, Pittsburgh police officers were serving a search warrant at a seventh-floor apartment in the Caliguiri Plaza high-rise at 803 E. Warrington Ave. in the Allentown neighborhood. The 45-year-old male allegedly opened fire on the officers as they breached the door. Police engaged him in an exchange of gunfire and a subsequent standoff. The man was ultimately shot and killed by an officer during the standoff during a second exchange of gunfire around 9: 30 a.m. Allegheny County Police are investigating the shooting, as per protocol when Pittsburgh officers discharge their weapons.

On December 12, 2024, Upper Merion Township Police Department officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a man armed with a knife. Upon arrival, officers encountered the individual, who was reportedly threatening others with the weapon.

On 12/10/2024, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Santiago Gutierrez, 29, was fatally shot by police during an incident on Cameron Street. Gutierrez was wanted in connection with the December 8 fatal shooting of 25-year-old Jhonny Torres. Police located Gutierrez operating a semi-truck and attempted to apprehend him.
Gutierrez used the truck to ram police cruisers in an effort to escape. Officers opened fire, striking and killing him. No officers were reported injured.
The incident is under investigation by the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office.

Ricky Shannon shot and killed one individual at a Lancaster County residence, then shot several others, leading to three fatalities in total. He fled in a truck, taking a 19-year-old woman. Police pursued him over 40 miles through two counties. He reportedly shot at police during the pursuit, leading to an exchange of gunfire, after which Shannon was shot and killed by state troopers.
