On March 22, 2025, Pennsylvania State Police responded to a call regarding a woman armed with a firearm at a residence. Upon arrival, officers found a two-year-old child inside the home, whom they safely escorted out. The woman subsequently barricaded herself inside the residence. Despite attempts to negotiate, she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers were injured during the incident.

Police encountered Aaron Rainey, 36, running naked through traffic in the 5000 block of Torresdale Avenue. Officers said he was experiencing a mental health crisis and agreed to voluntary commitment. He was placed unrestrained into a police wagon and transported to Friends Hospital. Upon arrival, for unknown reasons, the officers engaged in an altercation during which they allege that he tried to take a taser. During the struggle, he allegedly gained control of an officer’s gun and shot the other officer in the bulletproof vest. The second officer opened fire and shot Rainey multiple times. Rainey was transported to Einstein Hospital, where he died.

On March 6, 2025, at approximately 6:44 p.m., a 41-year-old male was booked into the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on charges of resisting arrest and prohibited acts. Shortly after arrival, he was transported to a hospital around 9:20 p.m. and returned to the jail at 12:57 a.m. on March 7, 2025. While awaiting arraignment, he experienced a medical emergency. A young girl had called 911, stating that her mother's boyfriend had a firearm and fired it within the apartment. Upon arrival, officers heard an additional gunshot followed by screaming. On 02/22/2025, 49-year-old Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz entered the Intensive Care Unit of UPMC Memorial Hospital at 1701 Innovation Dr., York, Pennsylvania, armed with a handgun and carrying zip ties. He took several staff members hostage, binding one female staff member's hands. Upon arrival, officers from the West York Borough Police Department engaged Archangel-Ortiz. During the confrontation, Archangel-Ortiz shot and killed Officer Andrew Duarte and wounded two other officers. Three hospital staff members—a doctor, a nurse, and a custodian—were also injured by gunfire. Officers subsequently shot and killed Archangel-Ortiz. York County District Attorney Tim Barker stated that Archangel-Ortiz had prior contact with the ICU earlier in the week for a medical purpose involving another individual, indicating the attack was targeted. On February 11, 2025, at approximately 8:56 p.m., Philadelphia Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop near 23rd Street and Lehigh Avenue. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Brandon Williams, drove away. Police escalated a chase that lasted until Williams crashed thevehicle near 23rd and Clearfield Streets and continued on foot. Highway Patrol officers encountered Williams near 23rd Street and Indiana Avenue, where he fired multiple shots, injuring a 38-year-old officer in the right hand. Williams ran away, firing at responding officers and striking two police vehicles. On 12/10/2024, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Santiago Gutierrez, 29, was fatally shot by police during an incident on Cameron Street. Witnesses heard 5-6 gunshots and called police to the 4100 block of Strawbridge Court in Dover Township where a man and woman had been seen entering a residence. Police arrived, brought SWAT and established a perimeter. SWAT made contact during which he and the female were reportedly alive inside. Police allege they heard shots fired and broke into the residence. Police found a woman shot to death and a man who fired a bullet and killed himself when he heard SWAT breaking into the home. Megan Saunders, 29, was killed and Devon Elias, 31, died by suicide under police duress.
