Michael Wayne Owens was riding his Yamaha motorcycle and making a left turn when he was hit and killed by Arkansas State trooper Brandon Trewyn. Police report that the weather was cloudy and visibility may have ben reduced. It is unknown what the speed of both vehicles was.Trooper Brandon Trewyn had previously caused a massive crash just weeks prior when on July 14, 2023, he chased Rashad Briscoe and Gloria Gonzalez into a wreck. The motorcycle with Taran Morris fleeing crashed into the motorcycle of a third party motorist, Mark McGowan, 60, also on a motorcycle as McGowan was leaving a parking lot and Morris ran into him during the police chase, killing McGowan. Two died and the other young man also fleeing with Morris was arrested and charged with second degree murder even though he was not involved in the accident.

A motorcycle crashed into a bicycle on an ocean-front street in Carlsbad on Carlsbad Boulevard near Palomar Airport Road as the motorcyclist was fleeing to the north from a state parks officer trying to pull him over for speeding and reckless riding.
The bicyclist, Brad Catcott, died at the scene of the crash. The 28-year-old man who had been driving the motorcycle and a 22-year-old female passenger sustained severe injuries.
