Trooper Chase Redner of the Georgia State Patrol was hit and killed while investigating an accident on I-75 near Mt. Zion Boulevard. A black Kia struck a construction employee at a freeway and then hit Redner who was investigating a prior accident at the site.

Kassandra Lozano was a passenger in the car of off-duty officer Pedro Lozano who crashed into a vehicle on the side of the road that had stopped to help a vehicle rolled over in the ditch. The officer in a Corvette smashed into the Good Samaritans’ vehicle, killing Kassandra Lozano and critically injuring one of the Good Samaritans and officer Lozano. A blood alcohol level was ordered on Officer Lozano, results not published by police. It is unknown how fast he had been driving. A Van Buren County sheriff’s deputy was patrolling in a rural part of the county when she saw a vehicle speeding in the early morning of Feb. 10, according to the sheriff’s office statement.
