Police were chasing 3 teens and said a 14-year-old passenger and 15-year-old driver got in a stolen gray SUV, blew through a red light at 71st, and continued north. Police escalated a chase and the teens slammed into the side of another vehicle that was turning left at 68th and Memorial. A 22-year passenger of the other vehicle died and the 21-year-old driver went to the hospital in critical condition.

Cop crossed into oncoming traffic to hunt him

Samuel Williams was riding his dirt bike when NYPD escalated a chase. Police say Williams’ bike was unregistered, and they claim that he was driving recklessly when he collided with an unmarked cruiser on the University Heights Bridge. It turned out that the cruiser crossed over into oncoming traffic to deliberately hit him. He died. “An officer took it upon himself to cross over the yellow line, into oncoming traffic,” said Jamie Santana, attorney for Williams’ family. “You are going to cause significant injury, if not death, and unfortunately that’s exactly what happened in this case.”

Around 7:06 p.m. on 06/01/2023, a Brentwood officer was patrolling the area of Sand Creek Road and O’Hara Avenue when he saw a Chrysler 300 that did not stop for a red light. The officer conducted a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop. The officer then escalated a chase during which the car left the roadway a few blocks away, striking the north curb of Sand Creek Road and came to rest on Rosalinda Court. Ryan Alphonso Young died.

On 03/20/2023, Officer Bustin Buzzella pursued motorist Ryan Griffin from Main Street in Dalton onto Robinson Road in Hinsdale. Sgt. Buzzarella claimed that he was chasing him because he felt Griffin may be impaired because the officer allegedly saw a stop sign violation, came to the conclusion to hunt the driver for possible DUI. Griffin was known to have a suspended license and this may have been the reason he fled when Buzzarella escalated a chase that ended when griffin hit a tree at high speed and died.

Sergeant Bustin Buzzarella had previously endangered drivers with reckless speeding and months before this death had been warned that any more incidents would lead to his termination. At the time Sgt. Buzzarella hunted Ryan Griffin to death, it had been his third unpermitted reckless high-speed chase in a span of several months. It was noted that he escalated the hunt on Griffin during very rainy dangerous conditions for a stop sign violation.

“I find that, by choosing to continue the pursuit after the operator increased his speed on wet and windy roads, Sgt. Buzzella created an avoidable risk of harm to the public. Based on these circumstances, there was no justification to commence a high-speed pursuit”, said police chief Deanna Strout.

Chief Strout also said that investigation showed that he had misstated facts and mischaracterized Griffin’s actions and “falsely reported the improper actions of this vehicle to justify pursuing it.”

Chief Strout terminated Sgt. Buzzarella after causing Griffin’s avoidable death, speaking out against his reckless driving and also falsification of records, apparently to cover it. Buzzarella filed a long-term disability claim against the city and is on disability pay, possibly to circumvent the firing by the unusually outspoken police chief. Buzzella has also been placed on the Brady List for the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, meaning he should not be called for witness testimony without prior approval.

Officers with the Montgomery County PD were sent on a mental health welfare check of a man in a car on the ramp of Rockledge Road around 5 a.m. The man was apparently asleep in his car and it is unknown how police approached him. He was evidently startled and managed to back up and flee and was chased at high speeds by Montgomery County deputies until crashing. The man was then ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers are identified as Sergeant Brett Trahan, a 29-year veteran; Police Officer III Kyle Baxter, a 9-year veteran; Police Officer III Jonathan Johnson, a 5-year veteran; and Police Officer Quinton Bowles.

On December 22, 2023, it was announced that the officers were cleared for this death.

Ronald Dale Shaw was on a motorcycle headed north on 8th Avenue SW around 6:15 p.m. on May 20, 2023. Dale collided with a westbound North Dakota Highway Patrol SUV driven by 26-year-old Halima Khalifa. Dale was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries.

A motorcyclist died in a fiery crash caused by a police chase by Bexar County. Police allege that the motorcyclist drove past him in excess of the speed limit. The deputy began following without lights or sirens. The deputy began to actively chase and claims to lost sight of the person before coming upon a wreckage in the area of Loop 410 and Highway 151 where the motorcyclist hit at least one other vehicle and "burst into flames." Contreras died as a result of the police chase crash.

National City PD said that Cristian Santizo was killed on 05/12/2023 in a solo car crash at the end of a “brief” police chase through National City. They initiated the chase shortly after midnight, when a southbound driver sped past a patrol officer.
