An officer with the North Augusta Department of Public Safety observed a motorcycle travelling 83 mph in a 40 mph zone on Edgefield Road around 8:30 p.m. The officer initiated a traffic stop and then police escalated a chase. The motorcycle reached speeds in excess of 100 mph. The rider swerved to avoid a vehicle near Belvedere-Clearwater Road, lost control, and was ejected from the 2013 Harley-Davidson. Walker was transported to Wellstar MCG Health where he died at 11:03 p.m. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

On 10/12/2025, deputies from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a motorcycle for speeding and having no visible tag. The driver, 16-year-old Olivia Morgan Sanchez of Laurens County, refused to stop. Police chased her through multiple streets, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour and crossing into oncoming traffic. The pursuit entered Seneca and continued onto Sheep Farm Road near Brook Lane, where the motorcycle left the roadway, struck an embankment, and collided with a tree. Sanchez was wearing a helmet and was the sole rider. She died later that night at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

On 09/19/2025, Isaiah Joseph Dionne, age 4, was found unresponsive in his home in Walhalla, South Carolina. The county coroner ruled the death a homicide and described Isaiah as severely underweight and malnourished, with visible ribs and bones. He weighed approximately 21 pounds. Two individuals, Joshua Emanuel Lamar Latimer, a then-South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper, and Destiny Shay Dionne (the boy’s mother), were charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and homicide by child abuse after allegedly placing him (and a 2-year-old child) at unreasonable risk of harm. Latimer was terminated from his law enforcement post on Sept. 19 upon his arrest.

Martinez had been wanted in connection with a July 31, 2025 shooting that left a man injured, and deputies had been actively searching for him for a week, treating him as armed and dangerous. Intelligence suggested he was traveling with 19-year-old Mary Virginia Dilling, who had been reported missing and endangered.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell personally commanded the tactical response, coordinating multiple patrol and investigative units to contain the property. Deputies flooded the area, establishing a secure perimeter and cutting off escape routes. Armed units took up positions around the residence, with rifles trained on key entry points, while negotiators moved into position and began sustained contact attempts.

On July 20, 2025, law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions engaged in a pursuit of a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe originating in North Carolina, which crossed into Cherokee County, South Carolina. Inside the store, deputies say Trey Rashon Lovett displayed a knife and demanded cash. Deputies located Lovett nearby and a K-9 handler deployed the K-9 to apprehend him. The K-9 bit Lovett while he was restrained. Deputies applied first aid while awaiting EMS. Lovett was transported by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he became unresponsive and later died. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office reported he suffered cardiac arrest following the K-9 bite. The nature and severity of the dog bite injuries were not disclosed. On May 8, 2025, deputies from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Antwan Washington for a moving violation of failure to yield. Washington did not stop. As officers approached the residence, they reportedly heard a gunshot from inside. Officers then entered and engaged Hatcher, ultimately shooting him inside the home. He was pronounced dead at approximately 9:18 p.m. No information has been released regarding whether Hatcher fired at officers or posed an immediate threat when they entered. On May 21, 2025, around 12:15 a.m., Richland County deputies responded to reports of two individuals breaking into vehicles at an apartment complex on Hunt Club Road. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 20-year-old Degeorge Darby and another man. Both fled on foot. During the pursuit, Darby fired two shots at Deputy Richard Jeffcoat and his K-9 partner, Kiro, striking Kiro in the ear. Deputy Jeffcoat returned fire, hitting Darby multiple times. On the morning of May 15, 2025, around 8:30 AM, Central Police Department officers initiated a pursuit of a 2005 Honda Accord driven by 32-year-old Jeremy Basquette. The chase proceeded west on Highway 93 towards Clemson. As Basquette attempted to exit onto Highway 76, his vehicle veered off the left side of the road, struck an embankment, and overturned. Emergency responders transported Basquette to Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Pickens County Coroner determined the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, not injuries from the crash. Authorities later indicated that Basquette may be connected to the disappearance of 68-year-old Steve Whitmire, who was reported missing from his home on Whitmire Hill Road late Wednesday night. Deputies escalated a high-speed chase and alleged that they lost sight of the vehicle and “called off the chase.” Moments later, the vehicle that was still fleeing ran a traffic light at the intersection of Sheraton Drive and Old Jackson Highway and collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle caught fire upon impact.
Deputies and emergency services responded to the scene, extracting occupants from the burning vehicle. Jaquavious Baptiste, a 16-year-old front-seat passenger from Elko, South Carolina, was transported to Wellstar MCG, where he was pronounced dead at 9:23 p.m. Other passengers sustained injuries and were treated at a local hospital.

On May 7, 2025, Florence County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on the 3500 block of Savannah Grove Road in Effingham following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they encountered a barricade situation involving a man holding two individuals hostage. After several hours of negotiations, the man released the hostages, who were unharmed. When deputies attempted to enter the home to apprehend the man, he took his own life. The identities of the man and hostages have not been disclosed.

On May 4, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute involving a firearm at a residence on Bryson Heights Drive in Simpsonville. Upon arrival, deputies were able to safely remove the victim from the home. The man, identified as 34-year-old James Daniel Webster Jr., remained inside the residence. On the night of April 26, 2025, around 11:50 p.m., Myrtle Beach Police responded to reports of a large disturbance in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard. Officers arriving on scene observed an altercation in which someone opened fire into a crowd. One officer returned fire, fatally striking 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville. On April 26, 2025, North Charleston Police attempted a traffic stop on a 2014 U-Haul box truck at Dorchester Road and Meeting Street Road. The driver did not stop, and police escalated a pursuit that continued along Dorchester Road onto Interstate 26 eastbound. Officers discontinued the chase near Columbus and King Streets, but the box truck kept traveling. The truck struck two pedestrians at Columbus and Meeting Streets, then crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2022 Mercedes sedan. The Mercedes hit a Honda motorcycle, which then hit a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe. One occupant of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Two pedestrians, three occupants of the Mercedes, and one occupant of the U-Haul were hospitalized with injuries. During the stop, 17-year-old Tyren J. Kinloch of Wando fled from the vehicle. Deputies reported that Kinloch pointed a firearm at one of them, prompting the deputy to discharge their weapon, striking Kinloch. Kinloch was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. All occupants of the vehicle were detained. No deputies were injured during the incident. Dwayne Eduh, 24, was involved in a police standoff on Interstate 20 near Old Ninety Six Indian Trail in Aiken County. He was wanted in connection with a double homicide in Newton County, Georgia during a Walmart shooting. Deputies attempted to take him into custody on April 13, 2025, and he shot himself during the standoff. He was pronounced dead at 4:12 p.m. at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., Gaston police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motorcycle due to a tag that did not match the vehicle and appeared altered. The motorcyclist, identified as 38-year-old Travis Leon Horton of Pelion, did not stop. Officers chased him and claimed to have briefly lost sight of him near the 500 block of Meadowfield Road, during which time Horton collided with a northbound Chevrolet sedan that had slowed for traffic. He had not been wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the crash site. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and its Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team are investigating the incident.

On March 9, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Jacob Sobieraj, 24, called 911 claiming he had killed a woman and a child at a residence on Mosteller Drive in Lancaster, South Carolina. Deputies from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found Sobieraj in the yard of the residence. Police engaged Sobieraj in a shootout, during which they shot and killed him. Deputies then entered the home and discovered a woman and a six-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a hospital, where the child later died from his injuries. The woman’s condition has not been disclosed. The child is not listed in the database because his death preceded police involvement.
