Isaiah Trammell, 19, was arrested on March 13, 2023, following a mental health episode and an outstanding warrant for misdemeanor domestic violence. While in Montgomery County Jail, Trammell—who had autism—was denied basic care, including medication and comfort, and subjected to restraints and mockery by deputies. Over several hours, Trammell was forcibly restrained, taunted, and ignored as he pleaded for help. After head-banging, which is a common behavior for those with autism, Trammell was tied down to a restraint chair multiple times. He died three days later in a hospital from blunt-force trauma, with his death officially ruled a suicide. His family believes the death was due to the abuse he endured in jail, and they have called for accountability.
