On 12/12/2025 a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on a Nissan sedan on Route 4 in Prince Frederick and activated emergency lights. The driver did not stop and the deputy continued following as the Nissan reached an estimated speed over 83 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. At the intersection of Route 4 and Stoakley Road the Nissan crashed into a Honda sedan driven by Servon Gatewood and also struck a Kia sport utility vehicle. Gatewood was taken to CalvertHealth Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The Kia driver and passenger were hospitalized with injuries described as not life threatening. Investigators later charged the Nissan driver Savon Quincy Samuel with felony negligent manslaughter by vehicle and related offenses and the Maryland Office of the Attorney General Independent Investigations Division is reviewing the pursuit and collision.

On 12/12/2025, a juvenile probation officer was involved in an altercation at a residence in the 4500 block of North Vogue Street in Las Vegas. During the incident, the officer fatally shot an acquaintance. After the shooting, the officer turned the gun on himself and died at the scene. Authorities said the incident was not related to the officer’s official duties and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding both deaths.

On 12/15/2025, De Soto Police Department officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the Panasonic plant in De Soto, Kansas. Upon arrival, officers encountered a suspect who had stabbed another person. During the encounter, officers fired their weapons, killing the suspect. A separate victim was critically injured in the stabbing. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation of the officer-involved shooting and stabbing.
