Deputies responded around 12:52 a.m. to a call about a suicidal man, later identified as Christopher Knels, at a residence on Interstate Avenue North in East Fairview. Other individuals in the residence were safely evacuated. Deputies attempted to contact Knels without success and called in the Williams County Negotiation Task Force. The task force reached Knels by phone, but he later exited the residence and pointed a firearm toward law enforcement. A McKenzie County deputy opened fire, striking Knels several times. He retreated into the residence, where deputies found him and attempted medical aid. Knels was transported to Sidney Health Center and pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered near his body. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

A Memorial Villages officer attempted a traffic stop for a vehicle with no taillights. The driver did not stop and sped away. Officers saw the vehicle again later and tried to stop it a second time, but the driver again refused to stop. Memorial Villages police have a no-chase policy and did not pursue. The driver continued at high speed and ran a red light at Fondren and Westheimer, crashing into multiple vehicles. His car burst into flames, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple people in other vehicles were hospitalized. Houston police are investigating.

A woman with head and neck injuries was evacuated safely and told officers that a man inside the home was armed. The man barricaded himself in the basement. Officers from multiple agencies entered the home and attempted to arrest him. Shots were fired and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was found near his body. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.

Around 8:10 a.m., Corporal Damion Allen was working security at Heritage Station Apartments in Southwest Atlanta when he was alerted that someone was breaking into his marked patrol vehicle. The officer confronted the person, who allegedly broke a window and approached him while holding a long flat piece of metal. Allen then opened fire, striking and killing the person. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the independent investigation.

As officers approached, a Latino male exited the home and opened fire. Officers returned fire. A female officer was shot and hospitalized in stable condition. The man was shot and taken to a hospital where he died. The shooting is under investigation by the Texas Rangers, El Paso Police Crimes Against Persons Unit, and Internal Affairs.

At approximately 2:21 a.m., an officer attempted to stop a vehicle that ran a red light at Winbourne Avenue and North Foster Drive. Several people fled on foot. One male reportedly pointed an AK-style weapon at the officer. The officer opened fire and struck him. He was taken to a hospital where he died. The investigation is ongoing.

Around 6:30 a.m., detention deputies found Jordan Michelle Richards unresponsive in her cell with a piece of fabric around her neck. A bystander alerted the officer to someone breaking into his marked patrol vehicle. The person, identified as 51-year-old Elieser Rivera Jr. of Passaic, New Jersey, had allegedly broken the window. When confronted, Rivera was reportedly armed with a piece of flat metal and advanced toward the officer despite repeated commands to drop it. Cpl. Allen opened fire, killing Rivera at the scene. On May 31, 2025, at approximately 1:45 a.m., a Monroe Police Department officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on Old Charlotte Highway near Rocky River Road. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Joshua Hayden Sikes, did not stop. Police escalated a chase that ended on Goldmine Road near River Chase Drive, where Sikes exited the vehicle and opened fire on officers, striking a female officer multiple times. She was transported to a Charlotte hospital and is in stable condition.

Sikes fled into a wooded area. Police organized a manhunt involving K9 units, drones, and assistance from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department helicopter. At approximately 3:52 a.m., officers located Sikes, who was armed with a rifle. He fired at officers, who opened fire, fatally wounding him.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Sikes was Possibly involved in an earlier homicide.

On May 31, 2025, Johnathan Findley, 38, was identified as the person involved in a double homicide in Gilchrist, Texas. Witnesses said Findley had argued with 45-year-old Eric Dopp and 24-year-old Wisdom Hall before shooting and killing both. He drove away in a white vehicle. Florida rapper NewAge Jerkboy, born Cornelius Better, reportedly died after complications from a police K-9 bite sustained during a police response to a shooting in Fort Lauderdale on May 30, 2025. His manager stated that Better was not involved in the incident but was bitten on the thigh by a police dog. The bite allegedly became infected, and when medical care was not available in time, he suffered organ failure and died. He was 29 years old. Around 1:30 a.m., a California Highway Patrol officer attempted a traffic stop near Indiana Street and Gleason Avenue. The driver did not stop, and police escalated a chase that lasted until the vehicle, an Aston Martin registered in Irvine, crashed into a pole at Soto Street and Washington Boulevard in Boyle Heights. The driver got out and tried to run but was quickly apprehended and handcuffed. He then collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene. On May 30, 2025, Taylorsville police located a stolen vehicle driven by Caysee Rebolloso, 35. When officers attempted a stop, she drove away. On May 29, 2025, Greenville County deputies, assisting the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, attempted to apprehend 51-year-old Johnny Andrews Collins, who was on Spartanburg County’s Most Wanted list. Acting on a tip, deputies located Collins in a wooded area off Cannon Road in Greer. Upon contact, Collins, who was armed, was shot and killed by deputies. His body was recovered from the wooded area. Five deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident.

At approximately 12:50 a.m. on May 28, 2025, a delivery driver in Manchester, New Hampshire, reported a stolen 2014 Toyota Corolla. About an hour later, a Manchester officer spotted the vehicle without headlights and attempted a stop. The driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase, which was terminated on the highway but the vehicle crashed on the Kilton Road off-ramp in Bedford. The 13-year-old driver and a 14-year-old girl passenger were ejected from the vehicle. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. The girl was seriously injured. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. The boy was a student at Southside Middle School in Manchester. Investigation ongoing.

A pedestrian was killed and another injured after a driver being chased by California Highway Patrol officers struck them on 12th Street in Oakland. The pursuit began around 8 p.m. near Lake Merritt and was called off after the vehicle was involved in a separate crash. On the evening of May 28, 2025, 50-year-old Carrie Hall of Cartersville was fatally shot by law enforcement during a traffic stop in Bartow County. Earlier that evening, Hall reportedly arrived at a residence in Bartow County and discharged a firearm. The homeowner, who was acquainted with Hall, identified her to responding deputies. Around 8:40 p.m., deputies from the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, assisted by a Cartersville police officer, located Hall's vehicle at the intersection of SR 20 and Conference Center Drive and initiated a felony traffic stop. Hall exited her vehicle armed with a gun and did not comply with repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon. Deputies and the officer fired their weapons, striking Hall. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No officers were injured during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation, and upon completion, the case will be referred to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Marco Dorsey, 43, was reportedly damaging vehicles and acting erratically in a Jeffersontown neighborhood around 11:25 a.m. An off-duty Jeffersontown police officer, a former LMPD officer who lives nearby, confronted him.
