A 65-year-old man in mental health crisis died by suicide following a four-hour standoff with Grapevine Police on May 12, 2025. The man was reportedly pulling on car door handles and refused to leave. When contacted by an officer, the man became combative, pulled the officer to the ground, and the officer used a Taser and other de-escalation techniques without success. During the struggle, the officer opened fire, fatally shooting the man. The officer sustained minor injuries. The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.

On May 12, 2025, around 1:00 a.m., Iowa State Patrol attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 35 near Osceola. The driver, 45-year-old Chad Kelly of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of David Willey, 46, two days earlier in Trenton, Missouri. After stop sticks were deployed by local deputies and police, officers approached the disabled vehicle and found Kelly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer on the passenger side observed a firearm in the driver's lap. On May 11, 2025, Mansfield Police officers identified a vehicle with a stolen license plate entering the city on FM 917. The vehicle, occupied by a driver and a front-seat passenger, fled from officers and entered U.S. 287 southbound. The vehicle continued to evade officers and entered the city of Midlothian. At approximately the 4000 block of West U.S. 287, the vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes before colliding with another vehicle. The driver was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. The front-seat passenger was transported by CareFlite to Methodist Central Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. All occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was confirmed stolen from the city of Grand Prairie.
