Anderson “Chase” Childers, a 38-year-old former Georgia police officer and minor league baseball player, drowned after entering the water at Pawleys Island to rescue a group of swimmers caught in a rip current. He and another man helped save five people from the current, but Childers was pulled under before he could exit the water. Emergency responders recovered his body approximately 90 minutes later. His death occurred in front of his wife and three children.

On 07/01/2025 around 1:30 a.m., Deputy Devin Mason and another deputy entered a home on Old Timers Court to serve a warrant for a wanted person. They were ambushed inside the house. Deputy Mason was shot and killed. The second deputy was injured and hospitalized in stable condition. The shooter was also killed by police. LAPD Sergeant Matthew Paul Landry, 43, was struck and killed on the 405 Freeway near Del Amo Boulevard while off-duty. On Thursday evening, June 26, 2025, Officer Kendall Corder and his partner responded to a domestic violence call near 25th Street and Garfield Avenue. As they exited their squad car, they were ambushed and shot in an alleyway. Officer Corder sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was placed on life support. On 06/27/2025, around 9:28 p.m., Deputy Brandon Gaede, 30, with the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a report of illegal fireworks at a residence on 1st Street in Phillipsburg, Kansas. While attempting to arrest 27-year-old Kolton Griffith, a struggle broke out. Griffith produced a concealed handgun and shot Deputy Gaede. Gaede returned fire, killing Griffith. Deputy Gaede was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

LAPD Sergeant Shiou Deng, 53, was fatally struck by a vehicle on the southbound 405 Freeway near Getty Center Drive around 2:00 a.m. He had stopped to assist with a prior two-vehicle crash and activated his emergency lights. On Sunday morning, June 22, 2025 at approximately 5:58 a.m., off‑duty Trenton Police Officer Timothy Long was involved in a single‑vehicle crash on northbound I‑295 near mile marker 45 in Westampton Township, Burlington County. His vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a traffic sign and a tree, and caught fire. Officer Long sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Long served 25 years with the Trenton Police Department and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Flags in Trenton have been lowered in his honor, and the New Jersey State Police is investigating the crash.

Allegations: A 29-year-old off-duty female CPD officer says she was waiting for a rideshare when a man and a woman approached, demanded she delete “videos” she had taken in the bar, and then beat her in the face. She needed stitches for a split lip. The police report identifies the man as Officer Carlos Baker who shot Rivera. COPA is investigating. According to the victim’s statement in the police report, no — he didn’t know she was a Chicago police officer.

Sergeant Edwards began his law enforcement career in 2006 as a detention officer with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.He joined the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office in 2008 and transferred to Precinct 2 in May 2021. In 2023, he was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the Toll Road Division. Known for his joyful personality and dedication to his family, Edwards was remembered by colleagues as the epitome of a family man.

Around 9:05 p.m., officers from the Paynesville Police Department, Cold Spring Police Department, and the Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic assault at Alstead's residence on the 600 block of Stearns Avenue. Upon arrival, they encountered Alstead's wife, who had visible, non-life-threatening injuries to her head and neck. She informed the officers that Alstead had assaulted her and was armed with a handgun in the basement.As officers attempted to arrest Alstead, he appeared at the bottom of the basement stairs holding a handgun. Stearns County Sheriff's Sgt. Paul Orvis, a 23-year law enforcement veteran, discharged his firearm twice. Alstead then fired a single, self-inflicted gunshot. Despite officers' efforts to provide medical aid, Alstead was pronounced dead in his home. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that while Alstead sustained multiple gunshot injuries, his death resulted from the self-inflicted wound. A handgun and shell casings were recovered at the scene, and all involved officers were equipped with body cameras during the incident.

Larry Alstead had been a retired MSP state trooper with a long career in law enforcement, serving 32 years with the Minnesota State Patrol before retiring in 1999.

Officers responded to his residence on Clairmont Way around 5 a.m. Upon arrival, Farmer exited the home armed with a loaded firearm. Despite commands to disarm, he fired five shots at an Oregon City police officer, who returned fire with three shots, striking Farmer in the hip. As Farmer lay on the ground, he apologized for shooting at the officer before turning the gun on himself, resulting in his death. The officer involved was uninjured and has been placed on critical incident leave.

On 05/03/2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Austin Police Detective Israel Garcia was involved in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Comal County, near San Marcos. He was off duty at the time of the incident. Detective Garcia was pronounced dead at a hospital in San Marcos. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation. Detective Garcia had served with the Austin Police Department since 2009.
