On 02/24/2026, deputies with the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a reported shooting involving a man who had barricaded himself in Odem. On 02/23/2026, a man recently released from the Hennepin County Jail went to a residence on Irving Avenue North in north Minneapolis and shot and killed two relatives, a 14-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man, believed to be his cousins, in front of other family members inside the home. Police later located the suspect in Brooklyn Center near the intersection of Xerxes Avenue North and 56th Avenue North after reports that he was armed and “waving a gun” outside of retail establishments. On 02/23/2026 at about 12:40 a.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 500 block of Westover Road in Big Spring. The vehicle did not stop and the trooper performed a PIT maneuver, causing the vehicle to crash into bushes. Two occupants fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, one of the fleeing people fired shots, striking the trooper. The trooper returned fire and struck the person who had fired. That person died from gunshot wounds. The injured trooper was flown to a hospital in the Lubbock area and is listed in stable condition. The Texas Rangers are investigating with assistance from the Big Spring Police Department and Howard County Sheriff’s Office.
