Heimann was fatally shot during an encounter connected to police operations. The individual responsible was taken into custody following the shooting. Sergeant Heimann had served with the Hays Police Department for more than 20 years and held the rank of sergeant at the time of his death. On 12/12/2025, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced that it had concluded its investigation. The case was referred to the Ellis County Attorney for prosecution.

On 11/30/2025, Parlier Police Officer Jesus Dario Corona was driving to work when his vehicle was involved in a fatal crash in Tulare County. He died from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

On 11/27/2025 Deputy Caleb Smith was off duty at a home in Waggaman during an argument with his brother. The confrontation escalated and his brother shot him. Deputies and EMS responded and Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. His brother was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder.

On 11/21/2025, deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and a locksmith responded to a home in the Bermuda Club community to serve an eviction notice requested by the suspect’s mother. The suspect, Michael Halberstam, opened fire from inside the residence, killing Deputy Terri Sweeting-Mashkow, injuring another deputy in the shoulder and critically wounding the locksmith. Officers returned fire and struck Halberstam. He later died from his injuries. The call was described as a standard eviction service call.

On 11/21/2025 Officer Alec Sanders was driving during a police pursuit when a fleeing driver collided with his patrol vehicle at the intersection. The crash caused catastrophic injuries and he was transported to a hospital where he died.

On 11/17/2025, James Hurley Edwards died by apparent suicide inside the Federal Detention Center Miami while awaiting sentencing on federal charges involving the production and possession of child sexual abuse material. Edwards had been found alone on a top bunk and was unresponsive. His attorney reported that Edwards had communicated with him electronically earlier that morning without any indication of suicidal intent. He had previously pled guilty and faced a mandatory minimum sentence of fifteen years. His death occurred three days after another person at the same facility died by apparent suicide.
