On 02/22/2026, Corporal David Michael Hathcock of the Montgomery Police Department died from injuries sustained in an on-duty vehicle collision that occurred on 11/09/2025 near the intersection of Taylor Road and Vaughn Road. Hathcock was a 20-year veteran of the department. A procession was held and city flags were ordered lowered to half-staff in his honor.

On 02/22/2026, North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that Master Trooper Stien Davis Jr. was on duty driving his patrol vehicle on NC Highway 130 in Robeson County just after midnight when he lost control of the vehicle. The patrol car left the roadway and overturned. Trooper Davis died as a result of the crash. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the collision.

On 02/21/2026 at about 3:40 a.m., Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kenneth Lewis stopped to assist a stranded motorist on Interstate-10 near Eldridge Parkway. While helping the driver, Lewis was struck by a passing vehicle that fled the scene. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he later died from his injuries. The Houston Police Department is investigating the hit-and-run crash and seeking the vehicle and driver responsible. Lewis had served with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office since 2015 and previously worked for the Missouri City Police Department. His death occurred while he was performing a police function serving the public.

On 02/19/2026, Officer Caleb Daniel Abney was conducting a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 75 in Lowndes County with his patrol vehicle parked on the shoulder and emergency lights activated when a Chevrolet Camaro traveling at high speed left the roadway and struck the rear of his patrol unit, forcing it into the stopped vehicle ahead. Abney died from injuries sustained in the collision. The Camaro driver also died from crash injuries. Abney, 26, had previously served with Lowndes County Fire Rescue before joining the Hahira Police Department. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
